“Research specialization is open to any area of U.S. history. Candidates’ research should be engaged with emerging methods and new historical questions in areas such as environmental history, histories of labor, histories of marginalized groups, histories of U.S. capitalism, political history, sports history, or similar specialties.” “Candidates should be qualified to teach a variety of courses in American history, including the two-semester U.S. History survey, African American history, and courses in their area of interest.” “The History Department works actively with many campus programs including Asian Studies, Black Studies, Gender Studies, and Hispanic Studies, and is committed to teaching world history as a background for a range of regionally defined histories.”
