Duke University Assistant Professorship in African and African American Studies

Deadline:

December 1

Length/Track:

Tenure track

Description:

Seeking applicants “with an interest in questions of Blackness, space, or spatial practice. Applicants might be interested in Black geographies, transformations in public space, whether urban or rural, national or local borders; areas may include, but not limited to, attention to institutions, neighborhoods, questions of environmental justice, alternative ecologies but also domestic spaces. The committee welcomes original conceptualizations of space in Black Studies, such as the study of carceral geography, the global US south, and the African diasporas in Asia and the Pacific. In keeping with the department’s commitment to Black Studies, applicants should consider space as it relates to the legacies of transatlantic slavery, colonialism, or the production of race and gender, although the PhD may have been earned in any field, including but not limited to geography.”
